After he fled the Ford’s Theatre stage, John Wilkes Booth exited through the door to its back alley. There he mounted his rented horse and kicked away the man holding its reigns, Joseph “Peanut John” Burroughs. Booth then bolted out of the alley. The passage is still accessible via F Street NW. Coincidentally, at the time my friend Kelvis and I visited in 2024, the alley’s entry point was next to an escape room company.
