This life-size statue of James Michael Curley stands on the ground floor of the Old South Meeting House in Boston. Text on signage beside the figure reads, “A popular figure in Boston politics, Curley held many elective offices throughout his career, including three separate terms as a mayor. In 1926, he denied requests from Margaret Sanger, as well as the Ku Klux Klan, to speak at city-owned buildings. In a mass meeting at Old South, the American Civil Liberties Union and others vigorously condemned the mayor’s decisions.”
