This is Frederick Douglass’s cane, on loan from the National Park Service to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Accompanying exhibit text reads, “This cane is carved with images from Frederick Douglass’s life. He used objects like this to remind people of his journey from slavery to freedom.”
