Dr. Woodson is not the only noted historical figure buried in Section D of Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. A few rows west of him rests activist Mary Church Terrell, the first president of the National Association of Colored Women. Deeper into the section, visitors can find Smokey Joe Williams — one of the greatest pitchers of the Negro Leagues and an inductee of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
